Sacrifice of Congo (Nkisi Sculptures)
$200.00Price
This piece brings attention to the people of Congo who sacrificed their lives and childhood so that the Western world could have convenient technologies. The wooden figures are holding a fetish which is where traditionally animals would be sacrificed and nails would be embedded as a form of protection to the individual or community.
The spheres floating above the wooden figures are called Congolese Cosmograms. They are a symbol from traditional Congolese tradition that represents the relationship between the natural world and the spiritual world.
